ABOUT ME
I'm a writing trainer and editor, and I've been helping people sound professional for 24 years
Hello, I'm Jo Robertson
I've been into words since I was a kid.
As an adult, the first 10 years of my career were in the communications teams of 4 NT Government agencies: Chief Minister and Cabinet, Tourism, Education and Health.
I started my business in 2011 and have since helped government agencies and corporate teams produce clear, consistent and accurate documents and emails as an editor and writing trainer.
Darwin in Australia's Northern Territory has been my home for 25 years.
Good writing mattered from the start
Cutting my teeth in public service communication, I learnt early how important clear, consistent and correct writing really is.
In government, poor writing does more than annoy people. Mistakes, jargon, overly technical language and muddled messages slow decisions, confuse audiences and erode trust.
My job was to make sure messages were clear, accurate and easy for the intended audience to understand and act on.
That experience shaped the way I work today. I’m a stickler for plain English, current style guidance (especially the bits many of us didn’t learn properly at school) and writing that respects the reader’s time and intelligence.
Helping people write better, one apostrophe at a time
Over the years, my writing workshops have helped almost 18,000 corporate and government employees at all levels – graduates to CEOs – improve their writing skills.
My training is practical, engaging and immediately useful. People leave with tools they can apply straight away, not abstract rules they’ll forget by Monday morning.
I focus on real workplace writing, real examples and the things that trip people up most often (apostrophes included).
Many clients come back again and again. Some make my workshops part of their annual PD program. They tell me my training works, and their staff appreciate learning that’s relevant, human and fun too.

- I grew up in country Victoria riding horses and mustering cattle on our farm (still my favourite place).
